1. Topic-
Articulations and Sweet Home Chicago
 
2. Content-
Proper articulations in a jazz setting.
 
3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1. The students will perform a variety of articulations and articulation combinations by minimizing ensemble inconsistencies.
2. The students will translate articulation exercise to the performance of "Sweet Home Chicago" so that student's awareness of articulation within work becomes defined.
 
4. Objectives-
1. The students will eliminate articulation errors within "Home Sweet Chicago."
2. Students will be able to verbally mimic articulation patterns.
 
5. Materials and Aids-
"Sweet Home Chicago," Instruments, Chalk Board.
 
6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1. Students will be instructed on the variety of articulations interpretations notated in jazz music
2. Students will be instructed on on the verbalizations associated with jazz music
 

B. Development-

1. Students will model and repeat the variety of articulations verbally and also by performing instrumentally.
 

C. Practice-

1. The students will perform, on a concert Bflat, a predetermined listing of articulations. The sequence will be repeated, altered, and performed again.
2. The students will apply skills developed during articulation activity to performance of "Sweet Home Chicago."
 

D. Independent Practice-

1. The students will integrate skills learned into their daily practice.
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1. No accommodations needed.
 

F. Checking for understanding-

1. Students will be evaluated based on their individual rehearsal and performance.
 

G. Closure-

1. Students will complete final section of "Sweet Home Chicago" will appropriate articulation.
 
7. Evaluation-
1. Students will be evaluated on their individual performance of "Sweet Home Chicago."
