3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
|
1. Students working in teams of three will create a concept map
through Inspiration 9 about their selected composer
2. Each team will turn their concept maps into a typed outline
3. Each team will compose a typed essay detailing the life, influences(musical,
social,and political), and works for their selected composer. |

4. Objectives-
|
1.Know the major eras of music- Baroque-20th Century
2.Identify Composers and Important works from each era
3. Know characteristics, style, and musical elements used by composers
in each era. |

5. Materials and Aids-
|
Inspiration 9 software, personal computer, Smartboard, research
tool (search engine), Sticky Notes, pencils, Microsoft Word |

6. Procedures/Methods-
|
A. Introduction-
1. Introduce students to a pre made Timeline for the four Eras of
Music: Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and 20th Century
2. Introduce our writing rubric and Concept Map/ Essay prompt
3. Introduce what a Concept Map is and it's function for our essay |

B. Development-
1. Using our first Era, Baroque, I will create a Concept Map using
Inspiration 9 over our Smartboard, showing students how we can connect
the information we learn through research.
2. Showcase the Names of several composers which the students will
choose from.
3. Using our concept map, show students how it can then be turned
into an outline, which will construct our essay |

C. Practice-
1. Using Google search engine and our class musical encyclopedias,
let students begin gathering data on their composer and begin writing
out and constructing connections through post-it notes.
2. Allow students to delegate task among themselves and monitor that
everyone is doing his or her part.
3. Assist and encourage students with adding photos, audio, or video
to their concept maps |

D. Independent Practice-
1. Students can continue individual or group research outside of
school.
2. Encourage teams to collaborate with other teams where their composers
may have a connection to gather more info.
3. Prepare typed outlines and drafts for peer reviewing and editing
in class. |

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-
1. Help connect students having trouble finding resources to local
music history professors in the area to ask questions.
2. Provide extra technology/software tutorials during study periods.
3. Allow students to use our school's library to gather extra resources. |

|
F. Checking for understanding-
1. Within their team, let students peer editing their work and check
for proper citation.
2. I will review work against our rubric to help given students ideas
of where they can do further research.
3. Ask each individual questions regarding their composer to ensure
that everyone is gaining new knowledge. |

G. Closure-
1. Let students present their Inspiration 9 concept map in class
on the Smartboard.
2. Each team will submit a Concept Map, typed Outline, and Essay with
proper citation. |

|
1. Do students know the major composers of each Era?
2. Are students able to identify the Era and/or composer by listening
to a piece of work? |
