1. Topic-
Playing the Musical Recorder
2. Content-
Finger boarding the Recorder.
3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1. Play the recorder with basic techniques.
2. Work in a small group to achieve a common goal
3. Identify strengths and weaknesses in recorder playing.

4. Objectives-
1. I can perform, on recorder, with basic techniques.
2.I can take ownership of my learning by talking about my achievements and my struggles.

5. Materials and Aids-
Recorder, Folders, Pencils, Ownership worksheets, rubric, whiteboard, dry erase marker, timer.

6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1. Students will come into room. Miss Cenci will explain the changes in the room (risers will be set up, groups will be located in different areas).
2.Recorder handlers will get recorders. Paper handlers will get folders, pencils, and worksheets.
3.Groups will get out recorders and put name/date on worksheets.
4. Students will echo patterns that Miss Cenci plays on her recorder. Miss Cenci will then pick students to play a pattern.

B. Development-

1. After the warmup. Miss Cenci will explain the targets for the day. We will discuss what these targets mean. What are basic techniques? What does it mean to own something? What are achievements? What are Struggles?
2. Students will read the rubric with Miss Cenci. We will play the last line of Old McDonald. We will give ourselves a score of 1, 2, 3, or 4 stars.
3. Students will then begin individual practice.

C. Practice-

1. Students will practice by themselves for five minutes. They will write down any struggles they have on the back of their paper. Pax game. Police will keep score of spleems.
2.Students will continue to practice alone for remaining time. When timer goes off I will award a wacky prize. (make up your own song for 30 seconds?)

D. Independent Practice-

1.Students will now practice as a group. 2 minutes for each performer with the timer. They will get out the rubric in their folder. Each person in the group will play the last line for the group. The group will talk about what number they should get and why.
2.Performers will have time to ask questions about their struggles and how to fix them.

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1. If a students is struggling with notes and rhythm I will ask them to focus on that. If a student is achieving notes and rhythms then I will ask them to focus on tonguing and dynamics.
2. If students seem to be mastering all of this I will ask them to work on more parts of the song. If they are struggling I will ask them to focus on just the 2 measures that contain new material.

F. Checking for understanding-

1.Students will play the last line together as a group.
2.They will rate themselves for a final time based on the rubric.
3.We will discuss scores as a group. What helped today? What are they doing well? What are they struggling with? Is it as good as it could be? Could you add more to your song to make it even better?

G. Closure-

1. Put away materials, talk about behavior, reward board.
2. Discuss that next class we will be watching the 2nd grade musical. I will not see them. The following Tuesday and Thursday will be test days for purple belt.

7. Evaluation-
I will reflect on students ownership sheets. I will also reflect on the conversations I observed while students were working in groups.
