Background-
|
All humans require essential nutrients to help maintain energy and promote the growth and repair of body cells. There are 6 catagories of essential nutrients: carbohydrates, fats and oils, proteins, vitamins, minterals and water. |

Expected Outcome Of This Lesson Plan-
|
1. Students will create a list of foods that are nutritionally balanced for a 3 day camping trip. The foods must also be portable.
2. Students will address healthy eating and how they can make healthy eating choices.

Teacher Objectives-

1. Students will identify misconceptions around healthy eating.
2. Students will communicate healthy eating habits.
3. Students will analyze food labels to help make healthy choices. |

|
1. Lesson Introduction-
1. Students will complete a KWL about healthy eating
2. Students will discuss questions - What does it take to maintain good health and nutrition? and What is a balanced diet?

2. Lesson Progression-
1. Students will view video "Health and Nuritition"
2. Students will again discuss questions - What does it take to maintain good health and nutrition? and What is a balanced diet? to see if opinions have changed. |

3. Guided Practice-
1. Students will discuss Focus Questions after viewing video |

4. Student Practice-
1. Students will use computers to research the Food Pyramid, and nutrition and Calorie information on various foods.
2. Students will use labels from diffrent foods to help make healthy decisions.

1. Students may work individually or in pairs

6. Assessment-
1. Studnets will complete a poster of foods packed for a three day camping trip.
2. Criteria for poster will be on a grading rubric, and students will follow rubric.

1. Students will share what they have learned today.
2. Short discussion to check misconceptions. |
