Expected Outcome Of This Lesson Plan-
1. To have students recognize that there is more than one way to move a volleyball during game play.
2. To teach students to pass a volleyball to his/her peer using a set.
3. To have students control their sets so that they can be hit by other peers in succession.
 
Teacher Objectives-
1. Setting the ball to self against wall
2. Setting the ball to a peer (no net)
3. Setting the ball to a peer (with net)
4. Setting the ball to the basketball hoop to make a basket

Teaching Methods-

1. Lesson Introduction-

1. Teach the students the main points to setting the volleyball:
a. hands above head
b. fingers spread open
c. looking through the window
d. making contact with just the fingerpads above head
 

2. Lesson Progression-

1. Demonstrate the set to self and the wall
2. Explanation of expectations for different practice activities
 

3. Guided Practice-

1. Setting to self with the use of the wall
2. Setting to a peer with/without a net
3. Playing a game of setting golf, using the basketball hoops as the target
 

4. Student Practice-

1. Allow 3-5 minutes with each practice activity leading up to game
2. Teacher observation of skill acquisition
3. Student demonstration of skill
 

5. Learner Accommodations-

1. Nicholas will be need to work away from the peer that he likes to carry on conversations with so to concentrate on his own work.
2. Nicholas will be given a specific number of the things sets he needs to do each time so that he knows when he is done and what he is working for.
3. Nicholas will be allowed to move around the classroom while directions are being given so he can better pay attention without getting in trouble.
 

6. Assessment-

1. What are the key points needed to set a volleyball?
2. What should you not do when setting a volleyball?
3. How many total hits are allowed during regulation game play?
 

7. Lesson Closure-

1. Talk about how setting can be combined with bumping to be successful in game play and strategy.
 
Measuring Student Progress-
1. Students appear to be comfortable and successful with the skill.
2. Students are asking questions about why/what they don't understand.
