Development-

Show some basic aerobics for the class to see:

Bunny Hop- The bunny hop aerobic step is a simple move that involves jumping. To begin this exercise, create a plus sign on the floor with tape. If performing outside, create the plus sign with chalk. The north-to-south strip should measure two feet and the east-to-west strip should also measure two feet. Stand in the upper right-hand corner of the plus sign and instruct the child to jump to the lower left-hand corner of the plus sign. Have the child jump back to the original starting point. Repeat this movement for eight repetitions. After the first set, instruct the child to jump from the upper left-hand corner to the lower right-hand corner of the plus sign. Repeat this movement for eight repetitions. Complete two to three sets of eight repetitions.

Sideways Shimmy- The sideways shimmy aerobic step is a more complicated step than the bunny hop. It requires the users to move sideways across the room, so it requires an open space free of furniture or other obstacles. Start this aerobic step by standing with both feet together. Step the right foot out to the right. Shifting your body weight to the right foot, bring the left foot behind your right foot. Shift your body weight to the left foot, and step the right foot out to the right once again. While your body weight is placed on the right foot, bring your left foot toward your right foot and tap your left foot against the heel of your right foot. Repeat the movement going to the left. Repeat the entire sequence three to five times.

Plus Sign Run in Place- Using the same floor setup as the bunny hop, create a plus sign with tape or chalk. Instruct the child to stand in the upper right-hand corner of the plus sign. Have the child run in place for five seconds. At the end of the five seconds, instruct the child to jump from the upper right-hand corner to the lower left-hand corner. Run in place for five seconds and then move from the lower left-hand corner to the lower right-hand corner. Run in place for five seconds then instruct the child to jump to the upper left-hand corner of the plus sign. Repeat this entire sequence three times.

C. Practice-

Go through all these sequences together with the students at a slow pace to where they can keep up. After going through give tips and advice on how to improve the steps.
