1. Topic-
Basketball
 
2. Content-
Students have been exploring Basketball skills including: dribbling, bounce and catch, chest pass, and partner bounce pass. Students have begun to practice shooting into the net. This skill requires hand-eye coordination, correct body positioning, and following the rules of the game (team work).
 
3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1. Students will have a better skill set and understanding of how to shoot the basketball into the net.
2. Students will continue practicing their cooperation with on another by following the rules of the activity as activated independently as possible.
3. Students will feel a sense of accomplishment and give praise to other classmates.
 
4. Objectives-
1. Students will follow the correct procedure of lining up and waiting their turn to shoot on the net.
2. Students will bend their knees and shoot using both hands
3. Students will retrieve the ball, hand it to the next person in line and return to the back of line (with minimal prompting)
 
5. Materials and Aids-
Materials:
Basketball net (lowered)
Basketball net (modified)
Basketball net (bucket)
Basket balls
Black circle (assembly point & closing activity)
Ipod (warm up activity)
 
6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1. Students will enter the gym and begin their free run for approximately 2 minutes.
2. Students will be called to the black circle
3. Students will offer up movement ideas for the warm up game and the procedure will be discussed
4. Students will play their warm up game for approximately 5 minutes.
6. Students will be called to the black circle
7. Key vocabulary will be reviewed
8. Rules of the activity will be reviewed
 

B. Development-

1. A few students will be asked to model the correct procedure (waiting in line, bending knees, using both hands)
2. Students will be asked if they would like to try (engagement check)
3. Students will be divided into leveled groups and a teacher will be assigned to each group.
 

C. Practice-

1. Students will line up, bend their knees, shoot with both hands,and retrieve the ball.
2. Students will give the ball to the next person in line.
3. Students will return to the back of the line to wait for their next turn.
 

Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1. Modified basketball net (middle group)
2. Modified basketball net (little group)
3. Modified basketball new (lowered)
 

Checking for understanding-

Lead teacher will rotate through the groups and make anecdotal notes about student performance.
 

Closure-

1. Students will be called back to the black circle.
2. Some students will be asked to demonstrate their skills.
3. Teachers will model appropriate encouragement.
