Line Dance: is a choreographed dance with a repeated sequence of
steps in which a group of people dance in one or more lines or rows
without regard for the gender of the individuals, all facing either
each other or in the same direction, and executing the steps at the
same time
Beat: one of a series of regular movements or hitting actions
Music: vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) combined in such a way
as to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion
Grapevine: is the name of a dance figure, which may look different
in various ballroom, club, and folk dances, but shares a common appearance:
it includes side steps and steps across the support foot |

3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
|
1. The students understand the basic concepts and terms of Line
Dancing
2. Improvement in locomotors movements.
3. Improvement in cardiovascular endurance. |

4. Objectives-
|
To encourage students to enjoy dancing, to learn basic dance steps
and to move to the beat of the music.

5. Materials and Aids-
|
Make a poster with the order of the dance steps posted on the front
wall. |

6. Procedures/Methods-
|
A. Introduction-
1. Begin the lesson by introducing what Line Dancing is and the
important terms.
2. Teach the Starships Line Dance one time through with music.
3. Begin step by step teaching on Starships Line Dance.
4. After the learning the dance, the students should dance the Starships
Line Dance on time through without music.
5. Finally, add music to the dance. |

B. Development-
1. Line up students into rows so that they can all see the instructor.
2. Teach the basic steps to the Starship Line Dance. First 8 Count:
Step right, touch left and pump right arm in the air (1-2). Step left,
touch right and pump left arm in the air (3-4). Step right, touch
left and pump right arm in the air (5-6). Step left, touch right and
pump left arm in the air (7-8).
Second 8 Count:
Walk forward R, L, R, together (clap on 4) (1-4)
Walk backward L, R, L , together (clap on 8) (5-8)
Third 8 Count:
Step right, touch left and pump right arm in the air (1-2). Step left,
touch right and pump left arm in the air (3-4). Step right, touch
left and pump right arm in the air (5-6). Step left, touch right and
pump left arm in the air (7-8)
Fourth 8 Count:
Walk forward R, L, R, together (clap on 4) (1-4)
Walk backward L, R, L, together (clap on 8) (5-8)
Fifth 8 Count:
Grapevine right(step, behind, step, together) (1-4)
Wave hands in air left, right,left, right (5-8)
Sixth 8 Count:
Grapevine left (step, behind, step, together) (1-4)
Wave hands in air right, left, right, left (5-8)
Seventh 8 Count:
Jump diagonally forward to the right(1) & clap(2) (1-2)
Jump diagonally forward to the left(3) & clap (4) (3-4)
Jump diagonally forward to the right(5) & clap (6) (5-6)
Jump diagonally forward to the left(7) & clap (8) (7-8 Eighth 8 count:
Stomp Right foot out to side (1-2). Stomp Left foot out to side (3-4).
Jump (4x) with feet together moving back to starting spot (5-8).
3. Add the music to the Starship Line Dance. |

C. Practice-
Play the music and have the students perform the line dance; however,
the instructor will be calling out the beats and the specific moves
to perform while it is playing. |

D. Independent Practice-
As the class begins to grasp the new line dance, they can go off
on their own and dance to the music independently.
|
|
|
E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-
Students who find this activity difficult will be paired up with
those who succeed because it will enhance the understanding of the
student who is helping, and give extra practice to the one who needs
it.

7. Evaluation-
|
To test the progress, the teacher will evaluate how the students
perform the grapevine; a key concept to line dancing.
|
|
|
