1. Topic-
Improving Motor Skills through physical activity/play
 
2. Content-
In order to grow healthy and fit, children also need to develop motor skills. Not only does it improve health and encourage play and social development between children, developing these physical skills promotes enjoyment and involvement in lifelong physical activity.


 
3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1.kids have more balance
2.kids are more coordinated
3.kids build muscle strength in legs
 
4. Objectives-
1.students will participate in a series of activities that promote physical education
2.children will work on improving leg strength as well as becoming more comfortable with increasing their speed.
3.running with agility will indicate improvement
 
5. Materials and Aids-
small orange cones, rope, chalk, balls (kick balls)
 
6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1.will introduce the lesson by informing students about the importance of improving leg strength
2.will also tell students about muscle growth and how their bodies will change and also why they should improve their coordination
 

B. Development-

1.I will demonstrate the obstacle course objective by completing each task in the obstacle course for guidance
2.I will tell each child the rules of red rover and explain how this promotes leg strength as well as helping with increasing strength in the arms
 

C. Practice-

1.Obstacle course
2.Red Rover Game
3.Exercises
 

D. Independent Practice-

1.Will give students work sheets to complete at home that have to be signed off by parents to let me know they completed each exercise or activity listed.
2.will also send home a folder each night so that the parents can mark their progress and have it returned to school the following day.
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1.for students in wheel chairs, activities will be geared toward building arm and back strength
2.for students who struggle with using their arms while running or etc., certain jumping activities will be implemented.
 

F. Checking for understanding-

1.Will have a discussion with the entire class
2.In the folder that goes home with each child will be a sheet for the child to write about what they have learned from each activity and how they feel afterwards.
 

G. Closure-

1.Discuss what the children have learned
2.Let the class summarize the meaning of each activity
 
7. Evaluation-
Once the 3-week lesson is complete the take-home folders will be turned in for evaluation and a grade will be given based upon improvement and the amount of work each child completed.
 
8. Teacher Reflection-
Overall the entire class displayed great improvement with their motor skills and even seem to be enjoying play more during recess which shows signs of them getting more involved in extracurricular activities or just playing outside more often. Each child has also improved on coordination which will help them with future physical education lessons.
