1. Topic-
Partner Mile Run/Heart Rate Calculation

2. Content-
The students partner up and each fill out the top of the attached partner mile form. I either let the kids decide which one of the two will run in the first mile or we do some sort of activity to decide who will be the first runner and who will be the second runner. While the first group of kids is running and being timed on the mile run, their partners are sitting (stretching) in a designated area with their own and their partner's mile paper. They listen for and record their partner's lap times as they reach the start/finish line. When the 1st runners complete their mile, there is someone at the finish line taking 6 second heart rates for the finishing runners. When all runners have completed the first mile, the kids switch and the partners then run the mile.

3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1.Complete mile run
2.Successfully calculate Heart Rate
3.Work together

4. Objectives-
Run the mile in a set time that is in your Healthy Fitness Zone

5. Materials and Aids-
A clipboard for 1/2 of your class is helpful, a pencil or pen for each student, and the Partner Recording Sheet

6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1.Explain to students what will be happening today
2.Have them stretch so they don't pull any muscles

B. Development-

1.Show proper running form
2.Give an idea of what the event will look like
3.Use other students to demonstrate

C. Practice-

1.Have students take a warm up lap

D. Independent Practice-

1.Have students keep independent lap times.
This will motivate them each lap to beat their time

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1.Some students that cant run have them walk the mile
2.Have set times for the mile walk as well so students show an effort.

F. Checking for understanding-

1.Look at results
2.See if target heart rates were met
3.Ask students how they liked the class

G. Closure-

1.Explain the importance of this class and running
2.Let them know what need improvement and what they did well

7. Evaluation-
Test them again in 2 weeks to see change in scores
if any
