Subject: Basketball Fundamentals
1. Topic-
Pivot - The 3 options: Dribble, Pass, Shoot / Rebounding
 
2. Content-
Students will learn the fundamentals of Basketball. Thru pivot exercises students will learn concepts of Dribbling, Passing, Shooting, and Rebounding. Towards the end of class, students will have the opportunity for scrimmaging / free shooting.
 
3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1. Students will learn pivot technique.
From there students will practice
a. Basic dribbling
b. 3 way passing
-bounce
-chest
-overhead
c. Layup & Shooting
d. Rebounding / Passing
 
4. Objectives-
Having basic understanding of Pivoting, Passing, Dribbling, Shooting, and Rebounding.

Basketball Court, Basketballs, Cones,
 
6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1. Opening Stretching (9 min)
Student Lead (5th, 4th, 3rd)
Teacher Lead (2nd)

2 .Split into Groups Boys & Girls (1 min)
 

B. Development-

1. Explanation of Stations
a. Dribbling / Passing / Pivot Station (5 min)
b. Shooting / Rebound Station (5 min)
 

C. Practice-

(10 min each)
1. Students will dribble, pivot 180 degrees and then pass back to classmate. Process repeated after every student has completed task.


2. Students will take turns shooting and rebounding. Students on the outside will shoot then students inside will rebound, pivot, and pass back to shooters.

 

D. Independent Practice-

As students run through station, I will examine, and help improve their technique / form. If necessary I will stop entire class to focus on demonstration / tips on better technique.
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

In between water breaks after each major lesson. (2 min each)
 

F. Checking for understanding-
