Grade: 6th
Subject: World History
Title-
Egyptian Mummification
SS.6.W.2.5

Background-
Students have been learning about all aspects of ancient Egypt life over the past week. Including writing, relgion, life, death and how important these were to them. This is a hands on activity to ensure retention of material. This is a cross curicular activity involving science. Students will be mummifying an apple and following the scientific process the same way they do in thier science classes. Help was given by science teachers to ensure I am conducting the experiment in as similar a way as I can to how they do it in thier class.

Expected Outcome Of This Lesson Plan-
1.Students will learn about early mummification process
2.Students will utilize skills learned in science
3.Student retention of mummification process will increase

Teacher Objectives-
1.Students will gain first hand knowledge of the material and work required for mummification
2.Students will understand how mummification works and why it was done
3.Students will have been exposed to standard SS.6.W.2.5
4. Students will have gained a better understanding of objectives/tools/processes of science

Resources-
Projector, handout, materials for experiment

Teaching Methods-

1. Lesson Introduction-

1.Bellwork
2.Discussion
3.Project overview reading

2. Lesson Progression-

1. Demonstrate step 1 check for understanding
2. Demonstrate step 2 check for understanding
3. Demonstrate step 3 check for understanding
4. Demonstrate step 4 check for understanding

3. Guided Practice-

1. After demonstration of each step the students will do each step. This is followed by checking to make sure it has been done right before moving on to step 2,3,4.
2. Students have a process guide as well to assist them

4. Student Practice-

1. After demonstration students will do the work themselves.

5. Learner Accommodations-

1.Students will be in Kaegen groups to ensure that upper level students are able to work with lower level students.
2. There are multiple processes that can be assigned to various group members that involve various written skills as well as physical involvement in the experiment ensuring that everyone can have a role

6. Assessment-

After each step is complete instructor will check for understanding before moving on to next step in process.
2. Students will complete a data chart and answer conclusion questions at the end

7. Lesson Closure-

1. During the experiment students will be keeping a data chart
2. Experiment takes 7 days. On 7th day students complete data chart and have 5 questions to answer to deepen understanding

Measuring Student Progress-
1. Meeting goals can be measured by student interest during the 7 day process it takes for experiment to come to fruition. Experiment will be kept in class so students can see progress of thier work.
