Grade: 8th Grade
Subject: Science
Title-
A Virtual Pond Dip

Background-
Protists:
-Animal-like
-Plant-like
-Fungus-like
-Protists

Expected Outcome Of This Lesson Plan-
1. Students should be able to identify Protists based on specific characteristics.
2. Students should be able to apply the knowledge of protists to real life situations (i.e. when swimming in a lake, drinking from water fountain...etc.).
3. Students should be able to apply this knowledge to future lab activities and life styles.

Teacher Objectives-
1.Students will identify Protists on a more advanced level of education.
2. Students will explore the history of Protists

Resources-
-Computer
-A Virtual Pond Dip Check point and instructional worksheet
-A Virtual Pond Dip Worksheet
-Pen, Pencil, or colored pencil

Teaching Methods-

1. Lesson Introduction-

1. What are Protists?
2. What is one that BEST describes protists?
3. What are the 3 main categories of Protists?
4. How would you identify each Protist? (i.e characteristics)

2. Lesson Progression-

1. Review Chapter 3, section 1 on Protists.
2. Students should be able to successfully distiguish between Protists from readings out of the science book.
3. Use technology, Pond Dip in this particular lesson, to emphasize Protists.

3. Guided Practice-

1. Using the Virtual Pond Dip, explore the differnt images of Protist that can be found in pond water.
2. Use these visual images to group each of the Protists.

4. Student Practice-

1. Students will be asked a series of questions before being allowed to participate in the lab activity.
2. Students will have a progress check based on how much they have learned during previous lecture on Protists.
3. The progress check will consist of short quizzes and games that will activly engage the students in learning about a particular subject.

5. Learner Accommodations-

1. Students with exceptionalities will be paired with other students.
2. Depending on the severity of the exceptionality, students may require a paraprofessional to aide in the demostration and explanation of the lesson being taught.

6. Assessment-

1. After the activity or lesson, students will be quizzes orally or through the use of technology (i.e webquests or virtual activities.
2. These tyepes of activities will ensure that students recieve quality and quanity education.
3. Students will be actively engaging in day to day activities and lessons to check their progress.

7. Lesson Closure-

1. The main goal of this lesson is to inform students about Protists and the active role that Protists play in our everyday environment.
2. Students should be able to take the information learned from this lesson and apply it to everyday life.

Measuring Student Progress-
Students will draw a picture and label elements of the pond.
