3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1. Observe and describe that some weather changes occur throughout the day and some occur in a repeating seasonal pattern.
2. Describe weather by measurable quantities such and temperature and precipitation.
 
4. Objectives-
1. Students will become familiar with key vocabulary in-regards to weather topic.
2. Students will demonstrate an understanding of what a meteorologist is and the role they play in our society.
3. Students will work together in groups to create an outline for explaining the weather using a 7 day forecast, and satellite maps.
 
5. Materials and Aids-

6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1. Students will help fill out a KWL chart on weather.
2. Explain to them that today they will become real life meteorologist using the same technology they see on television.
 

B. Development-

1. After completing the KWL chart students will listen to a book to titled: What will the weather be?
2. While listening to the book students will learn about key vocabulary associated with predicting weather and weather patterns.
 

C. Practice-

1. Students will be shown a sample video that displays a 7 day forecast and weather maps.
2. Students will then be placed into groups where they will have to develop a report for the videos and maps shown.
 

D. Independent Practice-

Students will choose one member of the group to become a real time meteorologist and using the 7 day forecast and weather maps deliver the weather forecast to the class.
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

Accommodations will be made based on classroom needs.
 

F. Checking for understanding-

Students will complete a key vocabulary worksheet that will require them to match terms with definitions learned from today's lesson.
 

G. Closure-

Explain that for the next 5 school days students will be required to record the daily high and low temperatures. ( Low temp will be taken by checking thermometer at the beginning of school each day and High temp will taken by checking the thermometer at the end of each school day.
