4. Objectives-
1. Students will be able to identify key facts about their assigned planet including; rotational period, diameter, distance from the sun, order of planet from sun, who discovered planet, date discovered, revolution period, surface characteristics, names of moons, and other "fun facts"
2. Students will be able discuss information about the 8 planets in the solar system.
 
5. Materials and Aids-
1. Computers

3. Glue
4. Scissors
5. Pens/pencils
6. Markers
7. Printer
 
6. Procedures/Methods-

Development-

1. Model a sample travel brochure of a fictional planet as a model of what the students should do.
2. Explain the different sections of the brochure.
3. Encourage the students to be creative when making the brochure.
 

Independent Practice-

1.Students will use the Internet to find facts about the planets including; rotational period, diameter, distance from the sun, order of planet from sun, who discovered planet, date discovered, revolution period, surface characteristics, names of moons, and other "fun facts"
2. Students will work in cooperative groups to design a travel brochure for a planet.
3. Students will briefly present their brochure and information about their planet to the class.
 

Checking for understanding-

1. Student will hand in brochure to the teacher
2. After the brochures are present the class will have a discussion about what they found interesting about the lesson.
 

Closure-

1. At the end of the discussion the each student will be asked to come up with a question about our solar system and the planets that he/she would like to know the answer to.
2. For extra credit the students can go home and discover the answers and then briefly discuss them next class
