1. Topic-
Solar System

Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1. Be able to know the layout of the Solar System.
2.Be able to label a blank picture of the solar system.
3. Work as a team to overcome adversities and help each other.

Objectives-
1. Students are going o be asked to fill in a blank Solar System worksheet in a group.
2. Work together to master the layout of the solar system.
3. Be able to work together as a group to solve problems and create a model of the solar system.

Materials and Aids-
-Styrofoam Balls (different sizes)
-Paint/ paint brushes
-Science book
-Paper
-Pencils/Markers
-Bamboo Sticks
-Solar System worksheet
- String
-Scissors
-Masking tape

6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1.the solar system consists of Sun, Mercury, Venus, Earth w/Moon, Mars, Asteroids, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, and Eris.
2. In your small you are going to work together to complete a blank worksheet of the Solar system.
3. After completion of the worksheet we will have a discussion of the findings and break back into our groups to create a model solar system.

B. Development-

1.students are going to fill out the worksheet and place the plants and parts of solar system in the blank spaces.
2.Creating the Solar System.

C. Practice-

1.Work together on the worksheet and talk about what each student knows and the strengths of your group.

D. Independent Practice-

1.Create the Solar System.
# 1

Write "Sun" and the name of each planet on a strip of masking tape, then set it set aside. Cut nine bamboo skewers in the following lengths: 2.5 inches, 4 inches, 5 inches, 6 inches, 7 inches, 8 inches,10 inches,11.5 inches and 14 inches. Lay them in order of their lengths for easy identification.
# 2

Affix the labeled strip marked "Sun" to the largest plastic foam ball and a labeled strip to each of the smaller balls to identify the planets. If desired, paint each ball and let dry before attaching a label.
# 3

Insert the 2.5-inch skewer into the ball marked "Sun." Gently attach the ball marked "Mercury" into the free end of the skewer.
# 4

Insert the next-longest skewer into the sun, and attach the ball marked "Venus" into the other end. Insert the third skewer into the sun, and attach the "Earth" ball to the other end.
# 5

Repeat the process outlined in Step 4 for each skewer, keeping the proper planetary order: Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto.
# 6

Secure string to the center ball (the sun) to hang, if desired.

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1. For students with Learning disabilities there will be worksheets with a word bank and also have the number of space on each question.

F. Checking for understanding-

1.Ask question after the worksheet is done about the solar system and see if they know the location.
2. Make sure not only one student is doing all of the work and answering all the questions.

G. Closure-

1. Ask the students what their favorite part of the assignment was and if they learned something new today.
2. Make sure each student has an answer about what they liked or disliked about the project ad what they would do different.

7. Evaluation-
1.seeing how well the students worked on the worksheet part.
2.comparing the worksheet to the project and seeing if the actual visual learning helped better.
