3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1.Draw or use pictures of a local environment to label the plants and animals. (CFU 0207.2.1)
2.Design a model of a habitat for an organism in which all of its needs would be met. (CFU 0207.3.20)
 
4. Objectives-
1. Students will investigate the habitats of different kinds of local plants and animals.
2. Students will investigate living things found in different places.
3. Students will recognize that animals eat plants or other animals for food.

6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1. Gallery-walk with ocean themed photos while students listen to The Little Mermaid soundtrack.
2. Students will watch a short video clip of the ocean and the animals and life within the ocean.
 

B. Development-

1. Open discussion about what was seen and heard on video clip. This will include fish, plants, and other sea-creatures.
2. Compare and contrast the life found in the ocean to life found on land.
 

C. Practice-

Compare and contrast chart to be completed by the class as a whole-group.
 

D. Independent Practice-

1. Draw a picture of an animal that lives in the ocean.

2. Describe the types of food this animal may eat.
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

Make sure students with vision impairments sit in the front while showing video clip.

 

F. Checking for understanding-

Journal reflection about the ocean and ocean life. This will include what students learned from the video as well as the compare and contrast chart. Students will also be asked to discuss their illustration.

 

G. Closure-

Decorate the classroom using an "Under the sea" theme. Students will draw and cut out pictures of animals found in the ocean as well as the plants and surroundings.
