1. Topic-
2. Content-
The human body systems
* The circulatory system
* The respiratory system
* The digestive system
* The excretory system
Vocabulary:
capillaries, alveoli, villi and nephrons |
3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1.Students will make a graphic organizer defining the body systems
and their functions.
2. Students will be each given a body system. They will create a poster
with a pictures of the organs in their systems. Then describe the
functions of the systems. |
4. Objectives-
1.Students will be able to define what a body system is and give
examples of body systems.
2. Students will be able to understand how body systems depend on
each other.
5. Materials and Aids-
Science books, poster board, markers, paper, pencil and document
camera. |
6. Procedures/Methods-
A. Introduction-
1. Students will discuss whole group what they know about body systems.
2. As a class we will look through the Human Body Systems chapter
and focus on important vocabulary and what the body systems are.
3. Again as a class we will do a popcorn reading, and read through
each of the body systems. Stopping and discussing what they are and
what their functions are.
4. We will discuss the vocabulary and write down the vocabulary and
definitions in our science notebooks. |
B. Development-
1. After reading and discussing the body systems, we as a whole
group will make a graphic organizer for each system and it's function.
C. Practice-
1.The students will practice going over the systems.
2.The students will make flash cards with each system and what that
system does. |
D. Independent Practice-
1.The students will pair up.
2.In pairs they will be given a body system.
3.With their body system they will create a poster of that system
(ex; digestive, respiratory, etc.) and draw pictures of which organs
are in that system. What the function of that system is and how it
works with other systems to keep our bodies working. |
E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-
1.ELL students are paired with more helpful students.
2.For students struggling with pictures I have models of the human
body. |
F. Checking for understanding-
1.Students are using their flash cards to practice what the systems
are and their functions.
2.Check students posters to make sure they have all the important
information. |
G. Closure-
1.Present posters to class.
2.Students who are listening, will ask questions after presentations. |
7. Evaluation-
1.Grade posters.
2. Multiple choice test on the human body systems. |
