3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
|
1.The students will know what the 4 stages of a butterfly/moth are.
2.The students will know the difference between chrysalis and cocoon.
3.The students will know which one of the above hangs from a tree
or burrows itself in the ground while metamorphosis occurs. |

4. Objectives-
|
1.The students will be able to name, in order, the 4 stages of the
life cycle for butterfly/moth.
2.When asked the students will be able to answer the question "Which
does a butterfly metamorphosis in, a chrysalis or cocoon?" |
|
|
5. Materials and Aids-
|
Webquest, Prezi presentation, audio clip, blog (for observations),
the book "The Very Hungry Caterpillar", materials for making mobile:
card stock, paper, crayons/markers, hangers, yarn, habitat equipment:
butterfly house and live specimen. Life cycle worksheets. |

6. Procedures/Methods-
|
A. Introduction-
1.Read "The Very Hungry Caterpillar".
2.Start KWL chart
3.Set-up habitat |

B. Development-
1.Show Prezi presentation.
2.Explain stages (more in depth).
3.Explain how we will journal and document on Blog our observations
of the classroom habitat. |
|
|
C. Practice-
1.Listen to audio clip about the life cycle.
2.Have children journal what the learn.
3.Add to KWL chart. |
|
|
D. Independent Practice-
1.Do webquest.
2.Have children make mobile of the lifecycle. |
|
|
E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-
Instead of full written sentences in journal, students can draw
pictures of what they see, learn, remember and have they write as
many descriptive words as possible. |
|
|
F. Checking for understanding-
Check to make sure the students remember the correct order of the
lifecycle. Have them lay out the 4 stages before constructing the
mobile. |
|
|
G. Closure-
1.Clean up
2.Review the Prezi presentation. |

7. Evaluation-
|
Students will complete a lifecycle chart with both the name and
a picture of the stage. |
|
