1. Topic-
Butterfly-Moth Life Cycle

2. Content-
egg, pupae, larva, chrysalis, cocoon, caterpillar

3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1.The students will know what the 4 stages of a butterfly/moth are.
2.The students will know the difference between chrysalis and cocoon.
3.The students will know which one of the above hangs from a tree or burrows itself in the ground while metamorphosis occurs.

4. Objectives-
1.The students will be able to name, in order, the 4 stages of the life cycle for butterfly/moth.
2.When asked the students will be able to answer the question "Which does a butterfly metamorphosis in, a chrysalis or cocoon?"

5. Materials and Aids-
Webquest, Prezi presentation, audio clip, blog (for observations), the book "The Very Hungry Caterpillar", materials for making mobile: card stock, paper, crayons/markers, hangers, yarn, habitat equipment: butterfly house and live specimen. Life cycle worksheets.

6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1.Read "The Very Hungry Caterpillar".
2.Start KWL chart
3.Set-up habitat

B. Development-

1.Show Prezi presentation.
2.Explain stages (more in depth).
3.Explain how we will journal and document on Blog our observations of the classroom habitat.

C. Practice-

1.Listen to audio clip about the life cycle.
2.Have children journal what the learn.
3.Add to KWL chart.

D. Independent Practice-

1.Do webquest.
2.Have children make mobile of the lifecycle.

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

Instead of full written sentences in journal, students can draw pictures of what they see, learn, remember and have they write as many descriptive words as possible.

F. Checking for understanding-

Check to make sure the students remember the correct order of the lifecycle. Have them lay out the 4 stages before constructing the mobile.

G. Closure-

1.Clean up
2.Review the Prezi presentation.

7. Evaluation-
