2. Content-
Class, Temperature, Color of the 7 classifications of stars.
 
3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
Students will compare and contrast two classifications of stars based on their temperature and color.
 
4. Objectives-
1. Students will make a graph illustrating the luminosity and temperature of various stars
2.Students will compare and contrast a type "o" star with our sun.
 
5. Materials and Aids-
Book pg. 486-489

6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

(3 mins)
Re-Iterate our work from yesterday re: the star classification table. Have students place the missing pieces of the table into their proper position on the board.

(7 mins)
Have students fill in their own star table. Differentiated supports to include partially filled in models.
 

B. Development-

(15-20 mins)

Show students the luminosity vs. Temperature graph. Explain briefly what it is.

Build a replica graph with given graph paper.

Differentiated supports to include pre-labeled graph and completed model to copy from.

Students will answer directed questions using evidence from their graph and or star table. Sentence starters provided, hierarchy of prompts utilized to ensure successful completion of task.

 

C. Practice-

(10 mins)

Students will compare/contrast a class "O" star with our Sun.

Venn Diagram graphic organizer. Differentiated by the amount of information pre-filled in the Venn Diagram, and a model (doc cam) used to ensure completion of task.
 

D. Independent Practice-

(10 mins)
Students will produce a paragraph summarizing the information provided on their Venn Diagram.

Differentiated assessment to include 3 levels of support provided to complete the paragraph. The levels of support are aligned to the writing goals of each student's IEP. (Paragraph composition, Sentence Composition, Cloze note sentence completion).
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

Reduced amount independent work, visual models, personal copy of notes provided.
 

F. Checking for understanding-

1. physical-placing papers into proper position on the table on the board

2. Oral-using sentence starters to answer question based on information from graph/table

3. Written-Paragraph completed (differentiated) comparing/contrasting stars.
 

G. Closure-

(2 mins.)

Review that stars are classified based on their temperature and color.
 
7. Evaluation-
Evaluate progress based on the 3 measures (formative) within the lesson.
