Topic-
How Does a Seed Grow?

Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1.Understand what it takes for a seed to grow
2.Label and color the seed/plant diagram correctly
3.Will understand the basic essentails for organisim life

Objectives-
1.Students understand why things are, for example they will be able to answer "why the sun is important for a growing seed", not just that the seed needs the sun.
2.Students will be able to copy vocabulary words from the board to their paper with little no spelling errors
3.Students will understand that their basic needs are somewhat similar to a seeds.

Materials and Aids-
if there is a video available in the school library on plant life, photosynthesis, etc.

Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1.Students will be asked to hold their breath for 5 seconds, or however long they can.
2.I will then ask them to name me things they know needs air to live.
3.If they do not mention plants I will ask if they know plants breath air too?

B. Development-

1.I will then tell them that seeds also need other things to live
2.I will ask if they see how we are kind of similar to plants
3.I will have cut outs for the students of a the life of a seed.

C. Practice-

1.I will ask the students to take their seed phases out of the ziploc bag
2.I will have my own larger version of the same phases on the board
3.I will walk the students threw each step. They will glue the seed phases on construction paper

D. Independent Practice-

1.I will then go over the names of the phases and what the seed needs
2.The students will then be given a word bank
3.I will ask them on their own to fill in the blank besides the seed phase with the correct word from the word bank. Questions may be asked, which I will help answer

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1.If I have some students struggling with reading the words I will ask them to come to my table where I will help them indvidually sound the words out
2.If I have students I know work better in a group I will bring those ones to a table and ask them to quietly go through and label the words with me

F. Checking for understanding-

1.After I feel every student has had enough time to complete the assignment I will go over each answer as a class out loud
2.Every student will be called on at least once to come to the board and write the correct word on the line next to the seed phase photo
3.If a student gets an answer wrong he or she may then ask another student with their hand raised for help.

G. Closure-

1.Students will be asked to go home and with a parent go outside and observe some of the plant life around their home.
2. Students should take notes and draw a picture of their favorite plant they saw outside. If possible identify the plant as well.

Evaluation-
Students will turn in the take home assignment and be graded on creativity, spelling, and coloring
