RECYCLING AND THE HARMS AND EFFECTS OF NOT RECYCLING. AND HOW WE CAN BENEFIT FROM RECYCLING

 
2. Content-
This lesson will introduce children to recycling and how they can contribute to recycling. Students will be shown a video on what happens to bottles that are not recycled and bottles that are recycled. At the end of the video, students will be asked to describe how they can recycle household objects. Students will be assigned to groups and then given the option of doing a poster, story, poem or digital story about recycling and how they can contribute. By working in groups students will learn teamwork and community. Additionally,thinking about how they can apply prior knowledge in new and innovative ways will enhance cognition. Students will be asked what they know about recycling. After hearing their thoughts instructor will show video on recycling. Students will be told about project they will have the option to do either digital story/poster/or craft project on recycling. They will be working in groups of 3 on project and at the end of nine sessions the project will be shared. Instructor will emphasize the necessity that the project should be centered on theme of recycling and how it will help environment.

Video will be shown so that student may model what is seen. And the instructor will tell student what is expected and by working in groups of three each student will be able to assist another in any weak areas.
 
5. Materials and Aids-
media, recycling tools, newspapers and other household items
 
6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1.Students will be asked what they know about recycling
2.A video will be shown
3.Newspapers will be handed out and students will be asked how they believe these newspapers may be recycled in the classroom.
 

B. Development-

1.Video will be shown of items that are recycled.
2.Students will be asked what they know about recycling
3.Instructor will demonstrate household item that can be recycled.
 

C. Practice-

1.Newspaper will be handed to students and they will be asked how they can recycle it in the classroom
2.Question will be taken
3.Students will be asked to take in some items that they believe can be used in other ways.
 

D. Independent Practice-

1.Students will be asked to work in groups to discuss recycling projects
2.Homework will be given to take in items that can be recycled.
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1.Each student will be given the option to work on either digital story, Poster, Poem, essay etc.
2.Students will work in groups so a stronger student can help a weaker student.
3. Parental involvement is encouraged to facilitate help if needed.
 

F. Checking for understanding-

1.Homework will be given
2.Question will be taken
 

G. Closure-

1.Groups will be assigned
2.Projects will be handed out
3.Final date for project and weekly follow up dates will be given.
 
7. Evaluation-
1.Presentation at the end of several sessions to demonstrate understanding of project.
2.Student will be graded based on rubric
