1. Topic-
Ionic Bonding and Salts
Standard 2 A,C,*G
Biological, chemical, and physical properties of matter result from the ability of atoms to form bonds from electrostatic forces between electrons and protons and between atoms and molecules.

2. Content-
Ionic Bonding and Salts

Key Terms
-salt
-lattice energy
-crystal lattice
-unit cell

3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1.Students will understand the process of the creation of and properties of ionic bonds.
2.Students will be able to create one of each level of Costa's questions with the information given.

4. Objectives-
1.Students can describe the process of forming an ionic bond.
2.Explain how the properties of ionic compounds depend on the nature of ionic bonds.
3.Describe the structure of salt crystals.

5. Materials and Aids-
Chemistry-Holt
-Costa's questions handouts
-Rubric
-Document Camera
-Projector

6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1.Students are reminded of Costa's Questions.
2.Groups are assigned.

B. Development-

1.Students will be given one example and will be shown what is expected.
2.The rubric will be shown on the document camera.

C. Practice-

No Practice, group work has already been modeled along with types of Questions.

D. Independent Practice-

1.Creation of the Costa's questions will be monitored throughput the period.
2.When the answer period occurs, answers will be monitored.

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1.All groups will be random.
2.No other special accommodations will be necessary.

F. Checking for understanding-

1.Questions and answers will be checked throughout the period.
2.Students will present the answers to their questions
3.Follow up bellwork quiz will be given on Friday.

G. Closure-

1.Students will present their answers toward the end of the period.
2. The teacher will provide feedback to the groups via the rubric and verbally.

7. Evaluation-
