6. Procedures/Methods-
|
A. Introduction-
1. Introduce topic: Differences Among Us
2. Say a couple of examples (girl vs. boy, tall vs. short, etc.)
3. Express the importance of accepting those differences and treating
each other with respect and kindness |

B. Development-
1. Read "The Only Boy in Ballet Class" story to the whole class.
(Use as one big example of a difference in someone and how sometimes
people can be mean because of being different)
2. Put children in partners and get them to identify 2 differences
and 2 similarities between them
|
|
|
C. Practice-
1. Discuss first the differences and then end with the similarities
2. Last, have each set of partners identify one activity in which
they both agree and could have fun doing together
|
|
|
D. Independent Practice-
Encourage each child to continue treating others with kindness and
respect so that they never have to feel like Tucker from the story.
|
|
|
E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-
1. If time allows, have a big draw out of a figure representing
Tucker from the story. Have the children tear a piece of him off,
every time something hurtful is said in the story. Then have the kids
put him back together with band-aids.
2. Discuss how this makes them feel. Keep bandaged figure up in the
classroom as a daily reminder to treat each other kindly. |

1. Review what the main ideas of the lesson are (we are all different
and deserve to be treated with respect and kindness)
2. Allow time for any questions. |

G. Closure-
Summarize the lesson learned and how we are supposed to treat one
another.

Observe any positive changes in the behavior of each child toward
one another.
