3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1.To make students more independent with currency.

2.Students will be able to count change from purchases and detect errors.
 
4. Objectives-
1.Students will know the value of pennies and nickels.

2.Students will count combinations of coins(1c & 5c), with 90% accuracy.
3.Students will add coin amounts to 10c.
 
5. Materials and Aids-
-Large cardboard coins.
-Real pennies & nickels
-paper wallets
-mini-white boards
-worksheets
 
6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1.Teacher demonstrates making a purchase & counting change.
2. Essential Question:How can I tell if I got the right change back?
3. Review coins-use lg. coins on board
 

B. Development-

1. Make combinations with pennies and 1 nickel with lg. coins- ask students for answers-write on mini white-boards-check for correct answers

2.Have students model coin combinations with real coins at desk. IA's check
3.
 

C. Practice-

Have individual students come to board make combinations for students to model and count.
 

D. Independent Practice-

Coin counting worksheets. 2 for practice with 1 for homework

-data taken upon review-# correct out of 10
Adapt evaluation according to abilities-
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1.Use assisted scanning with Maya
2.Scaffold Carisma & Rodney
3.use twin talk with Alan,Carisma, Rodney & Maya if needed
4. Use communication binders or Quik-talk-9 for numbers to 10.
 

F. Checking for understanding-

1. Teacher and IA's provide almost constant feedback for students during lesson.
-repetitive practice, reinforcement and varied experience.
- correct errors by counting with student.
-Teacher made assessment after Day 4.

After brief review on day 4 of 1c & 5c, evaluate each student with teacher made test with 10 items.

G. Closure-

1. Wallet coin counting-IA puts coin amt. in wallet, students count it-check for correctness
Review coin names & values w/lg. coins
