Subject: Self Improvement
1. Topic-
Students will define an area of self-improvement.
 
2. Content-
Students will define an area of self-improvement. The concept map tool will be used to analyze their topic.
 
3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1.Define an area of improvement
2.Pinpoint why to improve
3.Pinpoint how to improve
 
4. Objectives-
1.Students will analyze self (what makes you feel fulfilled or whole?)
2.Students will research or identify behaviors or resources to achieve desired topic.
3.Students will create concept map to analyze topic.
 
5. Materials and Aids-
Students will complete self-assessment.
Student will utilize computer.
Students will utilize Internet to research improvement methods.
Students will use Inspiration to map out delivery.
 
6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

Class discussion on improving oneself is probably the hardest task to accomplish because it takes great will power to truly look at yourself for who you are and not for what you pretend to be.
Defining the topic, the resources necessary to improve and setting realistic goals can be used throughout your life time.
 

B. Development-

1.Students will fill out a self-improvement survey to determine a focused 'area of improvement'.
2.Discussion regarding the benefits/value of 'area of improvement'
3.Discussion with teacher and other students regarding topic.
 

C. Practice-

1.Using a projector, I will provide students with a lesson about the basic tools of Inspiration, how to change, move and link symbols, and how to add links and notes.
2.Students will use Inspiration to map their topic.
3.I will encourage students to share their maps and topics.
 

D. Independent Practice-

1.Students will develop their concept maps by adding links and nodes.
2.Student will be encourage to add clipart and options within the Inspiration menu.
3. Students will be encouraged to share their maps with classmates.
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1.Identify those students who cannot 'narrow' topic; make suggestions, ask questions.
2.Identify student who cannot choose a topic; offer topic suggestions.
 

F. Checking for understanding-

1.Teacher will walk around room checking for map creation.
2.'Helping each other' will be encouraged.
 

G. Closure-

1.Teacher will display own self-improvement topic via a concept map.
2.Teacher will observe class reflection on map.
 
7. Evaluation-
1.I will provide a rubric.
2.At end of semester have students assess milestones or achievements of goals.
 
8. Teacher Reflection-
Adjust as necessary depending on rubric outcome.
