1. Students are expected to find out where there character is from and place him/her on the map of there hometown.
2. Students are expected to know and be able to use the four cardinal directions.
3. Students are expected to describe locations of objects in the classroom and school relative to other objects.

Teacher Objectives-
TEKS ยง113.3.(4) Geography. The student understands the relative location of places. The student is expected to:
(A) locate places using the four cardinal directions; and
(B) describe the location of self and objects relative to other locations in the classroom and school.

Resources-
World Map, pictures of each character from Seedfolks, pictures of objects in the classroom, paper, pencil

Teaching Methods-

1. Lesson Introduction-

1. I will read about each character from the book. (I will not read the entire book. I only want my students to know where the hometown of each character is from.)
2. Students will be grouped into threes and are given a picture of a character from the book.
3. Each group must figure out where there character is from.

2. Lesson Progression-

1. Each group of students will place their character on the world map (with help from other students and myself).
2. I will introduce the four cardinal directions which are north, south, east, and west. I will have my students draw a compass rose and have them label north, south, east, and west.
3. I will explain each direction from the way that my students are facing.

3. Guided Practice-

1. I will have my students stand up and face the same way I am. Looking at the clock in the room, I will tell my students the direction is north. Then turning and facing the opposite direction, I will tell my students that the direction has now changed and the clock is south.
2. Facing the desk, I will explain to my students the direction we are facing is east. I would then tell my students that when we move in the opposite direction, we are facing west.
3. We will then go back to the desks, and I will point to each of the characters on the map. I will explain to my students that Florence is east of us (in Texas) because she is in Louisiana. I will continue with each of the other characters.

4. Student Practice-

1. As a class, I will tell my students to face north, then south, east, and west.
2. I will give each student a direction on a card as well as a picture of an object in the room. The student must desrcibe to their classmates the location of self to the object.
3. Students will repeat this activity five times and are allowed help from their classmates as well as myself.

5. Learner Accommodations-

If students are having difficulty, they may get into partners or their groups.

6. Assessment-

1. Students will be given a character picture and must describe the location of self relative to the character.
2. Students must draw the four cardinal directions and label them correctly.
3. Students will be given a picture of an object in the classroom and must describe the location of self relative to object.

7. Lesson Closure-

1. I will go over the characters and directions of the objects in the classroom.
2. Students will raise their hands and answer given questions by the teacher.

Measuring Student Progress-
1. Quiz on identifying locations
