Teaching Methods-

1. Lesson Introduction-

1.Use movement activity to assess prior knowledge of students with regards to the concept of revolution.
2. This activity will also prime students for future lessons on the concept of revolution.
3. Help students classify the different kinds of revolution
 

2. Lesson Progression-

1. Provide brief historical background on the Romanov family by using slide-show and presentation to introduce key concepts - Pete the Great, Absolute Monarchy, Romanovs, Tsar, Tsarina,
2. Explain the theory / mystery of Rasputin
3. Break activity / Listen to Rasputin Song and use listening skills to repeat and remember the name 'Rasputin'.
 

3. Guided Practice-

1. Use song snapshot as source.
2. Explain that there are two ways to assess reliability of a source - a) analyzing source details and b) background knowledge
3. Tell the class that in pairs, they will try their hand at it.
4. Provide background details to Rasputin as reading material either by using textbook or using teacher-tell.
 

4. Student Practice-

1. Use Rasputin cartoon to get students to do source analysis at home.
2. Graded based on reliability rubrics.
 

5. Learner Accommodations-

1. For dyslexia/special needs student, pre-teaching the topic at remediation.
2. For NA students, to provide wordsplash/ vocabulary scaffolding and test. Templates and dictation for pair-work.
3. Time-out for NA students to discuss and put in their Interactive Notebook
