Teaching Methods-

1. Lesson Introduction-
1.Tell a story of my mothers experiences in an all white school.
2.Let students give examples of unfair practices they experienced

2. Lesson Progression-
1.Ask their opinion of where they would be if this were 1962
2.Tell them where they might be.
3.Explain Jim Crow laws. |

3. Guided Practice-
1.Have them use a dictionary and look up words I think might be unfamiliar to them.
2.Write the definitions on a sheet of paper.
3.Look up the words in the thesaurus to see similar words for maximum understanding. |

4. Student Practice-
1. Give them fifteen minutes to read the first chapter
2.Write what they think will happen next.
3.Write what they would do if they were part of the Logan family. |

5. Learner Accommodations-
1. Ask students if they would prefer to discuss what they think would happen next in a small group.

6. Assessment-
1. Sixty minute essay
2.Raise your hand and tell me your favorite charachter so far.

7. Lesson Closure-
Explain the importance of the Civil Rights movement and how it effects them today. Ask for questions on anything they didn't understand. |

Measuring Student Progress-
|
1.Assign a choice of a three page book report for the following week or a presentation to the class. Whichever they choosethey will be given the option to write or act out a scene in the book as if they were the charachter, to show what their reaction would be.
