Expected Outcome Of This Lesson Plan-
1.Students will learn about the reasons for colonization.
2.Students will learn about Jamestown and Plymouth to introduce the 13 colonies.
 
Teacher Objectives-
1.Students will explain when, where, and why people colonized and settled in the United States.
2.They will describe the accomplishemnts of colonial leaders such as John Smith and William Bradford.
3.They will explain the economic pattern of European Colonists.
4. Students will be able to identify examples of representative government in the American colonies, including the Mayflower Compact and the Virginia House of Burgesses.

Notebook paper for notes
Construction Paper for graphic organizer.

Teaching Methods-

1. Lesson Introduction-

1.Using the PowerPoint, review the objectives for the lesson.
2.Review the vocabulary terms that will be encountered in the reading and that will be expected to be learned.
 

2. Lesson Progression-

1.Describe the expectations for the assignment.
2.Explain that they will take notes that will be transferred unto a graphic organizer.
2.Demonstrate an example of the graphic organizer.
 

3. Guided Practice-

1.Review terms and concepts that students need to include in their notes
2.Demonstrate where the terms will go.
 

4. Student Practice-

1.Students will work in pairs withing a group and take notes.
2.As students finish their notes, they will transfer them to their graphic organizer.
3.Teacher will go around in groups to monitor progress.
 

5. Learner Accommodations-

1.ESL students can also use "Blue Book" pages 46-47 and 48-49.
 

6. Assessment-

1.Teacher will go around and question students about certain concepts such as governement to validate understanding.
2.Students will present their graphic organizer to the class to share their understanding of the colony they are working on.
 

7. Lesson Closure-

After students share their graphic organizer, the teacher will summarize and review the 3 targeted areas along with vocabulary.
 
Measuring Student Progress-
1.Students will be graded on class participation and,
2.students will graded by the content of their graphic organizer, including CUPS.
