1.Discuss the rise of fascism in the World before and during WWII.
2.Explain the differences in the types of governments that countries used during WWII.
 
Teacher Objectives-
1.SWBAT define fascism and totalitarianism and how it relates to WWII.
2.SWBAT name the countries and leaders of fascism and totalitarianism.
3.SWBAT explain the how the types of government played a role in WWII.
4.SWBAT apply what they have learned to write an essay comparing and contrasting the rise of fascism in Italy and Germany.

Teaching Methods-

1. Lesson Introduction-

1.In their journal the students will answer the question:
Recall a time when you felt power less as someone had control over you in every aspect.
How did you feel? What was going through your mind?
 

2. Lesson Progression-

1.Provide a definition of fascism and totalitarianism.
2.Show a map of countries which had fascist governments.
3.Explain how the countries made up the Axis Powers during WWII.
 

3. Guided Practice-

1.Provide the students with a map to color each country in relation to their government.
2.Group activity. Concept map.

4. Student Practice-

1.Homework would include a worksheet chart that had countries and leaders. Students would have to match them up with types of governments.
 

5. Learner Accommodations-

None.

6. Assessment-

1.Exit Card: Definition of Totalitarianism and Fascism.
The students will write on an index card their definition that they created after the group concept attainment map and turn it in as they leave the class.
 

7. Lesson Closure-

1.Have groups share their definitions.
2.Check for questions.
 
Measuring Student Progress-
1. Student will take a test on the material.
