Explain and analyze the rise of the 3 military leaders in the emerging Fascist/totalitarian European nations.
 
 


Expected Outcome Of This Lesson Plan-
5.02 Assess the significance of the war experience on global foreign and domestic policies of the 1920s and 1930s.

5.03 Analyze the causes and course of World War II and evaluate it as the end of one era and the beginning of another.


 
Teacher Objectives-
-students will learn about the rise of each dictator in Europe before WWII.
-Students will be able to identify the country of each European dictator
-Students will be able to analyze the reasons for each dictator taking over their respective nation.

Teaching Methods-

1. Lesson Introduction-

1. Student will answer following question in their notes:
-What events could lead to a nation being taken over by a dictator. please list.
 

2. Lesson Progression-

1. Give quick background lecture on each military leader being discussed.
2. Show video of one of Adolf Hitler's speeches to show how persuasive he was and able to gain support
 

3. Guided Practice-

1. Venn Diagram students must complete to show similarities and differences between Mussolini, Hitler and Franco
2. Cause and effect diagram for each nation (Italy, Germany and Spain)to show events that led to eventual takeover.
3. Discuss the video on Hitler's speech and talk about students thoughts on it
 

4. Student Practice-

1. students will be assigned a leader that has been discussed today and do more research him to learn more about political career
 

5. Learner Accommodations-

visual- Hitler's speech will be viewed to give students first hand look at his speeches.

linguistic- Lecture, student warm up question

interpersonal- homework assignment
 

6. Assessment-

Exit Pass: on a piece of paper, students will list the 3 leaders discussed and at least one reason (cause) as to why they were able to gain control
 

7. Lesson Closure-

1. Go over Venn Diagrams, check for questions on anything we discussed
