Clinical Instruction for Personal Evaluations
 
2. Content-
I will be working along with the other instructors to grade the students on individual performance.
 
3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1.Give the Dental Hygiene students an opportunity to measure accurate periodontal probe readings.
2.Give the Dental Hygiene students a chance to expose x-rays properly.
3.Give the Dental Hygiene students a chance to evaluate gingival conditions properly.
4. Give the Dental Hygiene students a chance to find calculus and remove it properly.
 
4. Objectives-
1. Identify risk and contributing factors for periodontal disease.
2.Determine clinical attachment levels (CAL's) through measurements within 1mm accuracy.
3.Perform accurate periodontal probe measurements within 1mm accuracy.
4.Expose digital x-rays to meet specified parameters for each individual area of the mouth.
5. Manipulate proper instrumentation the principles of instrumentation that include grasp, fulcrum, adaptation, proper angles, activation/stroke and lateral pressure to assure complete removal of plaque and calculus with at least 95% accuracy using dental hygiene instruments each student has purchased.
6.Demonstrate instrumentation while seated in a 12 o'clock position, while seated in an eight o' clock position through 4 o' clock positions for both right and left handed students.
 
5. Materials and Aids-
Computers for note-taking and student evaluation. Computer for evaluating x-rays.
 
6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

2. Proper measurement of probe readings.
3. Proper use of 11/12 explorer and calculus removal.
 

C. Practice-

1. Checking periodontal probe measurements.

4. Checking for proper seated position and instrumentation.
5. Checking for proper removal of calculus.
 

D. Independent Practice-

1. Proper placement of x-ray head.
2. Proper measurement of probe readings.
3. Proper use of 11/12 explorer and calculus removal.
