3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1. Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to identify and locate normal orofacial and apply terms and concepts to clinical practice.
2. Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to discuss the histologic and embryonic development of the tooth and oral cavity.
3. Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to understand and explain how knowledge of head & neck bones, muscles, arteries, veins, lymph, salivary glands and nerves relate to clinical dentistry.
 
4. Objectives-
1. Upon completion of this unit, the student will be able to define and pronounce key terms of this chapter.
2. Upon completion of this unit, the student will be able to describe the properties of mature enamel.
3. Upon completion of this unit, the student will be able to discuss the apposition and maturation of enamel.
4. Upon completion of this unit, the student will be able to integrate the knowledge of the histology with the clinical considerations involved with enamel.

6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

Open the introduction of enamel with a cartoon comic that references a component of enamel.
 

B. Development-

1. Use PowerPoint to introduce goals and objective of unit.
2. Define key words.
3. Define properties of enamel.
4. Discuss apposition and maturation process
5. Review clinical integration
 

C. Practice-

1. Group discussion and completion of blank graphs and diagrams.
2. Break in lecture when appropriate diagram can be completed together.
3. Filling out the diagrams together and calling on students randomly can access if students are comprehending the information.
 

D. Independent Practice-

A short 10 question quiz will be given the beginning of next class period.
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

Can work in pairs when completing the diagrams to allow student assisted learning.
 

F. Checking for understanding-

A short review will be given and questions will be answered at this time.
 

G. Closure-

Review components that will be included on the quiz that will be given the follow class period.
 
7. Evaluation-
Have the students complete the evaluation form.
