Subject Level: EMT-Paramedic Instruction
1. Topic-
An Introduction to Anatomy and Physiology

2. Content-
Introduction to Human Anatomy, Introduction to Human Physiology

3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
Cognitive Goals

1. A mastery of anatomy and physiology

2. Understand Homeostasis

3. Demonstrate competency of identifying anatomical landmarks

Affective Goals

1. Instruct students on caring for patients with physical pain from injury or illness.

4. Objectives-
1. Define anatomy and physiology, and describe the various specialties within each discipline.

2. Identify the major levels of organization in living organisms.

3. Identify the organ systems of the human body and the major components of each system.

4. Explain the significance of homeostasis.

5. Describe how negative and positive feedback is involved in homeostatic regulation.

6. Use anatomical terms to describe body sections, body regions, and relative positions.

7. Identify the major body cavities and their subdivisions.

5. Materials and Aids-
Textbook: Anatomy and Physiology For Emergency Care, 2nd Edition. Author: Bryan Bledsoe.

Visual: PowerPoint presentation adapted from text.

Video: Skills demonstration- locating the anatomical landmarks on simulated human and actual human.

6. Procedures/Methods-

Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

Visual Learner: Power Point Presentation, Skills demonstration per instructor and video.

Auditory Learner: Lecture format from instructor, classroom participation and dialogue from fellow classmates.

Kinesthetic Learner: Skills lab and in-class worksheet that consists of fill-in-the-blank, multiple choice, and diagrams from textbook.

Checking for understanding-

Primary Assessment: Question the students at the beginning of the lecture about the content and if there are any concerns or issues for clarification.

Secondary Assessment: During review of the material,,periodically (intervals of 30 minutes) question the students to see if there are any concerns with the material. In addition, involve the students by selecting random students in the group to answer content-related questions.

Final Assessment: After concluding review of the material, have the students complete a worksheet that evaluates their understanding of the material.

Closure-

Provide a worksheet with content-specific information and instruct the students to return the worksheet for a quantitative analysis of their understanding (grade).
