3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1. For students to understand and be efficient in the etiology and clinical characteristics of periodontal diseases.
2. Have students knowledgeable in the information on tissues of the periodontium, epidemiology, disease classifications, causative factors, assessment, and treatment planning.
 
4. Objectives-
1. Upon completion of this unit, the student will be able to describe the pathogenesis of periodontitis
2. Upon completion of this unit, the student will be able to define periodontal disease activity
3. Upon completion of this unit, the student will be able to list and describe the AAP categories of periodontal diagnosis
4. Upon completion of this unit, the student will be able to define clinical attachment loss and its relationship to periodontitis
5. Upon completion of this unit, the student will be able to compare and contrast Chronic periodontitis, Aggressive periodontitis, Refractory periodontitis, NUG, NUP, and periodontitis as a manifestation of systemic disease
6. Upon completion of this unit, the student will be able to state the role of systemic and locally applied antibiotic treatments

PowerPoint lecture and pictures and PowerPoint print out for student's notes.
 
6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1.Introduce myself and give a little background information about myself and my career.
2. Answer any questions from students.
 

B. Development-

2. Students follow along in their text book and PowerPoint printout, while taking notes.

During PowerPoint lecture, before moving onto the next slide OR topic, students will be engaged to discuss any questions about topic to ensure clarity of subject.
 

D. Independent Practice-

1. Students are encourage to read Chapter 7 prior to class.
2. Students will be given a Pre-Test
3. Students will be asked appropriate questions throughout lecture
4. Students will be asked if they understand before moving on to the next slide, where we will take time to answer any questions and clear questions up.
5. End of class students will be asked to write down 1 item that was unclear from that days lecture- Muddiest Point application
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1. Instructor will remain around after class to answer any questions from students.
2. Instructor will review Muddiest Point writings from students and clear any topics that were unclear to students.
3. Instructor will grade and return pre-quizes at next class.
