2. Content-

Emptying the garbage cans |
|
|
3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
|
1.Teach the importance of emptying the garbage cans regularly (about
once a week).
2. Explain how they are to transfer the trash into the garbage bag.
|
|
|
4. Objectives-
|
1. Child will be able to correctly state three reasons why we should
empty the garbage regularly.
2. Child will be able to empty 4 out of 5 garbage cans without spilling
any garbage on the floor.
3. Child will be able to place collected garbage in the correct receptacle
without reminder. |
|
|
5. Materials and Aids-
|
Garbage bag
Trash
Trash can |
|
|
6. Procedures/Methods-
|
A. Introduction-
1. Show the child the full garbage can. Explain that if the can
is not emptied, then the garbage will eventually fall onto the floor,
causing a huge mess and could possibly invite roaches into the house.
2. Tell them that this situation can be avoided by simply using a
regular garbage bag and pouring the contents of the garbage cans into
the bag.
3. Explain to the child that once the garbage is collected into a
bag, it is important to place the bag into an outside can that will
be collected by the local sanitation department. |
|
|
B. Development-
1. Show the child where to get the empty garbage bags.
2. Explain how to open the bag and how to keep it open during the
trash transfer.
3. Using one garbage can in the house, demonstrate the trash transfer
by putting the garbage can into the bag and turning it upside down,
allowing the contents to fall into the bag. If the child has difficulty
holding the bag and the garbage can, explain that they can ask for
assistance from family or friends.
4. Finally, explain to the child that if any garbage falls out of
the bag, they should pick it up and put it into the bag. If necessary,
they can use tissue to pick it up.
5. Tell the child that this must be done for each garbage can in the
house, and that once each can has been emptied, they are to throw
it in the outside can
6. Remind the child to thoroughly wash their hands once the job is
complete. |
|
|
C. Practice-
1. Once the demonstration is completed, take the child to another
garbage can. Have them empty the can. Provide assistance with holding
the bag or can, if necessary.
2. Ask the student if they can tell you where other garbage cans are
in the house. If they forget a location, remind them.
3. Ask the child where they will put the garbage bag once all cans
have been emptied. If necessary, walk them out to the garbage can
and help them lift the lid to put it in.
4. Ask the student what they should do once the garbage job is complete.
Remind them to wash their hands if they forget. |
|
|
D. Independent Practice-
1. After the student practices, allow them to continue throughout
the house emptying the remainder of the garbage cans. Child shall
make sure to take the full bag to the outside receptacle, place inside,
and wash hands upon completion.
2. After the child has completed the task, instructor shall check
each garbage can to make sure trash has been transferred. Once the
cans have been checked, the instructor should ask the child where
they placed the full garbage bag, to ensure that it is in the correct
outside location.
3. Check the child's hands to make sure they washed them. |
|
|
E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-
1.Gifted children may not need a full demonstration, merely the
explanation.
2. Very young children or those with learning disabilities may use
a partner to help them empty the cans. It is important, however, that
this child does the majority of the work in order to learn the steps.
3. For very small children, they can begin by emptying their bedroom
garbage can or their bathroom can. As they become familiar with the
process, they can move to more cans throughout the house. |
|
|
G. Closure-
1.Follow-up with the child and ask them how often they should empty
the garbage cans.
2. Ask why they should regularly empty the cans and/or what could
possibly happen if they don't. |
|
|
7. Evaluation-
|
1. Instructor should follow up with the child every week for the
first few weeks to make sure they have not forgotten their chore.
2. Instructor should also double check the various garbage cans to
make sure that cans are not being overlooked, or garbage is not being
left inside. |
