3 x 5 index cards for students.
Watch a video about stereotypes. |

6. Procedures/Methods-
|
A. Introduction-
1.Discuss what the following means: Always guard against the tendency
to believe that everyone within a given identity group believes the
same way.
2.Discuss the definition of a stereotype.
3. Discuss the language of prejudice, bias, discrimination, and racism.

|
B. Development-
Distribute index cards and invite students to write down a stereotype
they have heard about themselves or someone close to them.
|
|
|
C. Practice-
Shuffle the cards and invite a few students to pick one, read it
aloud, and talk about what another human would feel like to be stereotyped
in this manner.

|
D. Independent Practice-
Discuss and share ways to eliminate stereotypes. |
|
|
E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-
In a bilingual classroom, the instructions can be written on the
blackboard in English and Spanish.
If the index cards have an example in English, it can be translated
into Spanish and vice versa. |

F. Checking for understanding-
Ask questions and allow volunteers to respond. |
|
|
G. Closure-
Create class pledge where signers commit to ending stereotyping. |
|
|
7. Evaluation-
|
1. Give key vocabulary quiz.
2. Have each student write a five-paragraph essay on the lesson, including
his/her ideas on eliminating stereotypes. |
|
|
8. Teacher Reflection-
|
Teacher will initiate additional lessons that promote not only tolerance
but also encourage celebration of the culture of all students and
ethnic diversity. |
