1. Topic-
Create a Vacation Flyer
 
2. Content-
Illustrate a flyer with a picture (either drawn, personally taken, or found online)of either somewhere you have been or somewhere you would like to go on vacation including three specific details about the location.
 
3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
To be able to create a flyer with the use of Microsoft Publisher and other technology.
 
4. Objectives-
1.The student will be able to insert photos into Documents.
2.The student will be able to navigate the Internet in order to find minor pieces of information.
3.The student will be able to upload photos onto a computer.
 
5. Materials and Aids-
a computer, the Internet, Microsoft publisher/Microsoft works program, a scanner, pictures, travel books, and a camera and its required connection cables.
 
6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1.The teacher will pass around the class some pictures and/or souvenir from his/her favorite vacation.
2.While this is taking place begin a short discussion about the students' favorite vacations as well (this will help start the students' brainstorming)
 

B. Development-

Using one of the pictures they passed around, the teacher will then make a quick example of the flyer and demonstrate how to use the program.
 

C. Practice-

The class will all create the same flyer for a previous field trip that the class has taken in order to gain knowledge in how to manage the programs they will be using.
1. The entire class will select the same basic template for this flyer.
2. Then the class will insert the same picture into the flyer from the same location.
3. The students will provide the same three facts for the field trip in their own words/way.
 

D. Independent Practice-

1.Find/adjust their selected picture for their flyer.
2.Locate/research the three informative facts they wish to include on their flyer.
3.Combine in order to create/finish their vacation flyer
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

Students with special needs could work in pairs with an average child, or get extra help from the teacher.
 

F. Checking for understanding-

1.Before printing their flyers the students must have the teacher's approval.
2.The teacher will look at the flyer's organization, colors, and layout
3.The teacher will also look at the three facts that the students provided about the vacation location.
 

G. Closure-

1.Have the students present their flyers and explain what they learned about their vacation location
2.Once graded, allow the students to hang their flyers around the room.
 
7. Evaluation-
Did the students obtain the objectives and goals of the lesson?
 
8. Teacher Reflection-
1.Did the students have fun creating their flyers?
2.How much help did the students require to complete this activity?
3.Could this lesson plan be extend and expanded?
