1.Students are randomly selected to work in groups on social studies project
2.First time groups meet, tell which role they would take in making the project
 

B. Development-

1.Explain project focus on learning about diversity
2.Provide sheet with info on the requirements for the project
3.Give examples of what can be done
 

C. Practice-

1.Students sit in circle and say one good thing they like about themselves
2. Ask questions about being different, what are some good things about being different
3. Disabled students share their feelings in class, with friends, etc.
4. Work on terms surrounding mental disorder
 

D. Independent Practice-

1.Students keep daily journal of what they do/about themselves
2. Share with the class

 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

Provide class time to work on project-a poster, parts of their diary, something creative to show what they've learned
 

F. Checking for understanding-

1.Accuracy on class worksheets while in groups
2.Exam on schizophrenia/mental disorders
3. Turn in personal journals
 

G. Closure-

Write response on what they have learned
