3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-

1.Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to utilize
Dentrix to document and record patient data at a competent level.
2.Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to utilize
Dentrix to record clinical notes at a competent level.
3.Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to utilize
Dentrix to enter patient procedures both completed and treatment planned
at a competent level.

4. Objectives-
|
1.Upon completion of this unit, the student will be able to identify
the family file in Dentrix, and describe what content is found in
the family file.
2. Upon completion of this unit and given a case study, the student
will be able to compose and record patient clinical notes.
3. Upon completion of this unit, and given a case study, the student
will be able to analyze what medical alert items need to be recorded
in Dentrix.
4. Upon completion of this unit, and given a case study, the student
will be able to recommend a continuing care recall, and record in
the family file. |

5. Materials and Aids-
|
Computer lab (at least 20 stations)
Main computer station connected to projector.
Dentrix Manual

White board with markers and eraser.

6. Procedures/Methods-
|
A. Introduction-
1. Present case study example - patient presents who has moved and
changed their phone number. What do you do? (2 min)
2. Present 2nd case study - patient arrives for prophylaxis, but was
not reminded to take his premed. You are unable to proceed - how can
this be prevented? (3 min) |

B. Development-
1. Use PowerPoint to present information about Family File.
2. Students follow along in Dentrix manual taking notes.
3. Each of the following sections will be introduced:
1) Family File (3 min)
2) Head of Household (2 min)

3) Insurance (5 min)

4) Birthdate (2 min)
5) Address/Phone (3 min)

C. Practice-
1. Students will be grouped into pairs. During each break students
will practice skill (see development).
2. In partners, students will complete Family File Activity - and
then upload to D2L dropbox (45 min) |

D. Independent Practice-
Quiz - multiple choice - to be completed during next class session. |
|
|
E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-
Groups that finish early (high achievers) will provide peer feedback
to remainder of students. |

F. Checking for understanding-
1. Instructor will be available to help students with questions
about in-class assignment.
2. Instructor will check assignments in D2L dropbox and provide feedback
regarding any errors. |

G. Closure-
Review major components of family file and discuss quiz for next
week. (5 min)
