Picture Collage of Michigan State Historical Parks
 
2. Content-
Students will create a picture collage of Michigan State Historical Parks.
 
3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1.Students will learn new facts about Michigan State Historical Parks.
2.Students will find 3 colorful pictures of state historical parks and the locations of the parks.
3. Students will become better at searching the Internet for interesting facts.
 
4. Objectives-
1.The collages will include 3 colorful pictures from 3 different state parks.
2.The collage will include 3 facts about each picture that will include; name of historical site, location and why this site is historical.
3.Students can cut and paste information to a word document.
4.Projects will be neat and follow rubric expectations.
 
5. Materials and Aids-
Computers for each student
Computers with Internet access and a Word document.

6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1. There are many Michigan State Historical Parks. Using the Internet you will explore these parks and chose three to focus on.
2.You will produce a collage of 3 pictures, from 3 different state parks, with captions under each picture. You will include in the caption; the name of the park, the location and why it is a historical park.
3. After completion the projects will be shared with the class.
4.Rubric and expectations passed out to students and are shared with class.
 

B. Development-

1. Teacher will model the procedure for searching the Internet on his/her computer,and starting the Word document,on the class projector for students to see.
2.Steps will be written on the board for students to follow.
3. Teacher searches the Internet and finds a site with Michigan State Historical Parks. Showing students how to use Google or Yahoo.
4.Teacher shows students how to create the document once a picture and information are found.
a. Right click on the picture and click copy.
b.Open up a Word document
c.Right click again and click and paste.
d. Type required information under the picture.
e. Make sure to save information as you work.
5. Check for understanding of students before beginning practice.
 

C. Practice-

1.Students practice the above steps together with one picture at their own computers.
2.Remind students to look at steps listed on the board for creating a document and searching the Internet
3.Once students have shown that they understand how to cut and paste to a document they may continue independently.
 

D. Independent Practice-

1. Remind students that steps are posted on the board for them to follow.
2. Students need to remember to save their documents as they work throughout the assignment.
3.Monitor students progress and that they are choosing 3 separate state parks.
4. Make sure they are including appropriate information under each picture.
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1. Shortened assignments will be acceptable for students with this accommodation written into IEPs or 504s. The length acceptable will be determined depending on the student.
2. Peer pairing with appropriate partners will be done with students, when necessary.
3. Setting up a Word document with a picture may be necessary for some students.
 

F. Checking for understanding-

1.Make sure students are selecting pictures from 3 separate state parks.
2.Observe that students are including appropriate details under each picture.
 

G. Closure-

1.If not done with the document students need to save their work.
2.If done save their work and print it.
 
7. Evaluation-
1.Observe that students understand the assignment and are staying on task.
2.Evaluate each project with a rubric.
 
8. Teacher Reflection-
Will be completed after project is completed.
