Topic-
Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War
 
Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1. The students will learn and understand who Abraham Lincoln was.
2. The students will learn and understand how Abraham Lincoln contributed to the Civil War.
 
Objectives-
1. The students will learn who Abraham Lincoln was. The students without a learning or physical disability will complete this with 95% accuracy. The students with learning disabilities will complete this with 70% accuracy. The students with physical disability will complete this with 75% accuracy.
2. The students will learn how Abraham Lincoln contributed to the Civil War. The students without a learning or physical disability will complete this with 95% accuracy. The students with learning disabilities will complete this with 70% accuracy. The students with physical disability will complete this with 75% accuracy.
 
Materials and Aids-
Smartboard-Slavary/Civil War/Abraham Lincoln
Elmo
glue
Books- Who is Abraham Lincoln? By Janet Pascal
24-Abraham Lincoln cut out
24- Popsicle sticks
 
Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1. The students will be introduced to the name Abraham Lincoln. ( " Can anyone tell me who Abraham Lincoln is?")
2. The teacher will explain who Abraham Lincoln was.
3. The teacher will read a book called Who is Abraham Lincoln? By Janet Pascal. After reading the teacher will ask the students questions about who they believe Abraham Lincoln was from the story.
4. The students will watch a short video on the smart board from YouTube called Slavery/Civil War/Abraham Lincoln.
 

B. Development-

5. The teacher will explain the video that was just played. The students will give their insight on the video.
 

C. Practice-

6. The teacher will pass out a sheet for students to trace and cut out the head of Abraham Lincoln.
7. The teacher will also pass out glue and popsicle sticks. The students will glue the popsicle sticks on the back of the Abraham Lincoln cut out.
8. The teacher will name say different facts and opinions about Abraham Lincoln as well as how he contributed to the war. If students think it is the truth they will hold up their Abraham Lincoln, if they think that it is false they will keep their Abraham Lincoln down.
 

D. Independent Practice-

9. The students will pull out a sheet of paper. One one paper the students will use shapes that the teacher provide to them to create a photo of Abraham Lincoln.
10. The students will then turn to the back of their sheet and write 3-5 sentences on how who Abraham Lincoln was, and how he contributed to the Civil War.
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1. The students with behavioral issues will be placed near the front of the classroom.
2. The students with learning disabilities will be placed with a student that can help throughout the entire lesson. These students will only have to write 2-3 sentences.
3. The students with physical disabilities will be partnered with someone throughout the lesson. These students will also be placed near the front of the classroom. These students will only have to write 2-3 sentences.
4. The ELL students will be placed with partners thought the activity. These students will only have to write 2-3 sentences or can draw pictures.
 

F. Checking for understanding-

The students will turn the sentences in as a check to see if everyone is understanding. The students will receive a grade back on their drawing and sentences.
 

G. Closure-

The teacher will explain who Abraham Lincoln was and how he contributed to the Civil War. The teacher will also go around the room and have random students read what they had written down.
