1.Allow students to become familiar with searching for information
via smart phones.
2.Ensure that, as a whole, the class understands the main ideas presented
in this unit. |

4. Objectives-
|
1.Using smart phones, each student will review concepts presented
in the Civil War Unit.
2.With competition throughout the class, the students will maintain
focus on the task presented. |

5. Materials and Aids-
|
1 Smart Phone per group
1 Regular Cell Phone per group
1 Computer for the teacher
1 Projector
1 Doc Cam

6. Procedures/Methods-
|
A. Introduction-
1.Divide the Class into groups of four.
2.Make sure that each group has at least one smart phone and one regular
phone.
3.Explain that only one of each type of phone can be used during class. |

|
B. Development-
1.Explain that this class will be devoted to review for the upcoming
test on the Civil War Unit.
2.Explain that each group will be responsible for coming with answers,
using their smart phone, to questions that are submitted to each group.
3.Handout the questions. |

|
C. Practice-
1.Each group, using only the knowledge retained from the unit, and
their smart phones, will research the answers to all questions on
their handout.
2.The groups will turn in their completed handout sheet. |

D. Independent Practice-
1.I will show questions without the answers from various group's
sheets, and all groups will search for the answers as quickly as possible
2.Using the regular phone, each group will text their answer to the
number associated with the wiifti.com account.
3.This will repeat until a significant amount of the material has
been reviewed and successfully answered by the class. |

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-
1.As the class will be working in groups each group should include
all group members in researching the answers.
2.There should be no need for any special accommodations. |
|
|
F. Checking for understanding-
1.As the answers come in I will make sure that each group has the
correct answer.
2.If there are incorrect answers, as a class we will find the correct
answer.
3.If a certain concept seems to be eluding the class as a whole, we
will take the time to ensure that the entire class understands the
specific concept. |

G. Closure-
1.I will assign points to the speed and accuracy with which the
answers were submitted.
2.Whichever group wins according to these metrics will get an extra
point on the test. |

7. Evaluation-
|
1.I will walk around the room during the first portion and make
sure that the students are on task and making use of the smart phones
in the correct manner.
2.I will ensure that the class as a whole understands the concepts
presented by viewing their answers both on the sheet and through the
texted responses. |
