Introduction-

1.Present the students with 3 forms of government and let them decide which one seems like the better one of the three
2.Explain the different forms of government
3.Explain Direct Democracy, and Representative Democracy
 

Practice-

1.Activity: Group Discussion; Compare and contrast Oligarchy, Monarchy, and Democracy
2.Activity: Group Interaction: Divide the students into 3 groups each with a different form of government. The students have 1 chance to move to any of the other groups but they first must explain why they they have decided to move, and why they think the new form of government is a better choice
3.Activity: Group Discussion; Why is voting so important?
 

Independent Practice-

1.Look up the origin of the word Democracy
2.Look up the meaning of the word Democracy and Freedom, compare their meanings
3.Write a brief statement on why you think Democracy and Freedom are considered synonyms
 

Checking for understanding-

1.Define the 3 forms of government presented at the beginning
2. Identify the diference between a Direct Democracy and a Representative Democracy
