Subject: New Mexico History |

1. Topic-
|
The topic for this lesson is the Lincoln County War which took place
in the late 19th century in southern New Mexico. |

2. Content-
|
The main subject is why the war broke out and who were the key figures
in this war.

3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
|
1.want students to understand what a monopoly is and how this was
the root cause of this war.
2.want students to understand the significance of this war and how
New Mexico Changed after it was over.
3.Want students to learn to read maps and understand geographical
locations. |

4. Objectives-
|
Want students to be interested and excited to learn this important
time in our state's history.

5. Materials and Aids-
|
Textbook, Internet research, film/documentary. |
|

6. Procedures/Methods-
|
A. Introduction-
1.First part of the lesson I will explain what events led up to
the Lincoln County war and who were the key people in this confrontation.
2.I will provide overhead slides of certain individuals that way students
will be put a face with the names that are being discussed.
3.Show a brief documentary on the war.

B. Development-
In class I will give important details of events that took place
but I will highlight certain terms or events that I will want students
to research on their own.
|
|
|
C. Practice-
1.I will have a a list of certain terms I will want students to
define and understand for an examination that will cover this lesson
as well as others in the unit.
2.In class I would like for the students to create a map of New Mexico
during the time of the war. I want them to identify and mark on their
map key areas that pertain to this subject. This will help them with
map skills.

D. Independent Practice-
1.In groups of 3-4 I will have each group pick a key individual
and do some brief research on them. Then as a group I would like for
them to come up with an alternative solution to what they actually
did that the certain individual they chose.
2.Each group will give a brief classroom presentation.
3.If students do well I will reward them for their hard work with
a possible field trip to Lincoln. This is a great opportunity for
them to experience the actual atmosphere of the area of where this
war took place. |

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-
|
F. Checking for understanding-
There will be a lesson quiz of subject but this topic will also
be included in unit test.

G. Closure-
Give an overall explanation of events, how it changed New Mexico
and the culture of the people living in this territory. |

7. Evaluation-
|
I will evaluate if students comprehended the information from there
assessments and group reports.
