3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1. To learn the 5 regions of Georgia.
2. To learn the different types of landforms from each region.
3. To learn what plant and animal life is on each region.
 
4. Objectives-
1. Student will know how the Georgia regions are alike and different.
2. Students will know how to explain how each region looks.
3. Students will know where each region is located in the state of Georgia.
 
5. Materials and Aids-
Construction Paper
Markers
Paint
Colored Pencils
Pens
Homework Sheet
Blank Georgia Outline
 
6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1. Teacher will lead a class discussion on the 5 regions of Georgia.
2. Teacher will ask students what they know about the regions and what they would like to know about the regions.
3. Teacher will list things that were discussed with the class on the board and keep it there for student notes.
 

B. Development-

1. Students will be lectured on the relationship between the regions.
2. On the board the teacher will have a Venn Diagram displayed. The information the students came up with will be organized in the appropriate places in the diagram.
3. The teacher will tell the class but not write down the missing information about placement, and how each looks on the Venn diagram.
4. Students will need to write this information down for themselves in their Venn diagram/notes.
 

C. Practice-

1. Students will be broken into small groups.
2. The teacher will make sure that the groups are balanced by making sure strong students are dispersed amongst the groups and not all put into 1 group.
 

D. Independent Practice-

1. Give student a homework sheet. (Blank Georgia map)
2. Students will be given a worksheet with 4 questions. Using their notes, book and what they have learned in class, students will have to say what region the question is about.
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1. Special needs' students will be given extra help as needed by using visual, auditory, and kinesthetic methods.
2. Lower level students will be given extra support by working with different level students in small groups.
3. The teacher will use multiple modes of representation to accommodate different students.
 

F. Checking for understanding-

1. Formative Assessment: As students are working on their individual diagrams, the teacher will assess students' knowledge by listening to the groups' discussions.
2. Summative Assessment: Students will have to take a unit test on the 5 regions of Georgia.
 

G. Closure-

Students will complete a "ticket out the door". They will have to know information about one of the 5 regions of Georgia to get a pass out.
 
7. Evaluation-
1. Progress will be measured by their ability to work in groups and meet all the requirements of the lesson.
2. Students Venn Diagrams will be hung up around the classroom and graded for individual content, not on artistic design or creativity.
 
8. Teacher Reflection-
I felt the lesson worked very well. The students enjoyed learning about the regions.
