4. Objectives-
|
1.TLW compare a map of the world to a map of the United States noting
all the differences between countries and states
2.TLW brainstorm and generate lists of a state for each group and
have the group reporter name the state and ask for a volunteer to
find the state on a map of the United States
3.TLW draw and identify three geographic regions of Louisiana, including
a title, map key, and compass rose
4.TLW create a report describing the regions with information about
the location, borders, and key physical geographical features including
landforms, bodies of water, and types of vegetation. |

6. Procedures/Methods-
|
A. Introduction-
1.TTW review with students continents and countries using a world
map
2.TLW compare the map of the world to a map of the United States noting
difference between countries and states.

|
B. Development-
1.Using cooperative grouping, students will brainstorm states. As
a class activity have a group reporter mane the state and ask for
volunteers to find the state on a map of the United States
2.Using a map of the US TTW talk about the different sizes and shapes
of states. Point out the specific shape of Louisiana, the state borders
and its natural borders of Mississippi River to the east, Gulf of
Mexico to the south, and Sabine River to the west.
3.Have Students describe verbally using cardinal or Intermediate directions
and location of Louisiana within the US.
4. Discuss the landforms and geographic region of Louisiana. Note
the borders, vegetation, locations, landfoms, and bodies of water
in each.
5. Give students an outline map of Louisiana and have them indicate
the three geographic regions. A title, map. Key, and compass rode |

C. Practice-
Students will research and record specific information about the
regions on a graphic organizer. Students will then prepare a report
using Microsoft word.

D. Independent Practice-
Constructive Response item: Have students pretend they own the state
of Louisiana. You wan to change the regions. You can have as many
as you want and they can be any shape but not the same shapes that
they are now. Make the changes and name the regions on a blank map
of Louisiana. In paragraph form, explain why made those changes.

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-
1. Students will be able to take in information through auditory
methods of listening to discussion form the teacher and fellow classmates.
