6. Procedures/Methods-
|
A. Introduction-
1.Introduce specific famous people from the Civil War and explain
what their significance was.
2. Explain the role of women and Negroes in prior wars and how the
Civil War was different.
3.Explain the vocabulary words and terms. |

|
B. Development-
1. Use text to have students read about famous Civil War people.
2. Have students choose a biography of one of these people and read
it.
3. Have students write an essay on what that person contributed to
the Civil War and the outcome of the war based on the contribution.
4. Have the student create a poster showing an image of the person
and listing their achievements.
5. Have the student give a 5 minute overview of their chosen person
to the class.
1. Print bingo cards with the names of famous people from the Civil
War.
2. Play Bingo by holding up a picture of a famous person from the
Civil War and having students place a fish cracker on their card if
the person's name is listed. The teacher can add identifying information
about each person as she holds the card.
3. Students may eat their fish crackers when someone wins a Bingo
round.
1. Play a game using index cards. Place the name of the famous person
at the top of the index card. Beneath the name list 4 identifying
informational items about the person. Make sure there is one famous
person for every student in the class.
2. Split the class into two groups to compete against each other for
points.
3. Have students take turns reading their identifying informational
items.
4. The team that recognizes and accurately tells who each person is
gains one point. The winning team will have the most points. |

C. Practice-
1. Play Bingo based on famous people of the Civil War.
2. Split the class into two groups. Play a game for the highest number
of points based on which group answers the most questions accurately
from identifying information items of famous Civil War people. |

D. Independent Practice-
Read textbook and choose a person to read a biography on. Do a report
and a poster based on the person chosen. Present a 5 minute dialogue
on the person chosen.

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-
1. Adjust the reading level as needed for the biography reading.
2. Have students work on an outline for their essay during class so
the teacher can help. |

F. Checking for understanding-
Students will take a quiz on famous Civil War people based on matching
the people to their accomplishments. |

G. Closure-
1. Review the role that political and military leaders played in
