1. Topic-
2. Content-
Today, the students will receive and define their Key Terms and
Phrases for the chapter that focuses on the Constitution |
3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1. I want to provide students with background knowledge that will
enhance their understanding of the unit.
2.I want to teach the students how to use contextual clues to find
the right words, which will help them on standardized testing |
4. Objectives-
This is part of a new push aimed at helping our children improve
their MAP-testing scores. By improving their vocabulary and their
test-taking scales, we hope to raise their scores. |
5. Materials and Aids-
Students will need their books, writing utensils and paper. I'll
use their overhead to broadcast the definitions they write. |
6. Procedures/Methods-
A. Introduction-
I will ask the students what "framers" means. I would be that most
of the them respond with someone who builds picture frames or window
frames. In our context, however, we're talking about the writing of
the Constitution. |
B. Development-
I will break the students down in to groups and assign them a word
group to define. I will demonstrate with the first word on the list
on the big-screen. |
C. Practice-
The students will be broken down into groups to define their words.
They will then help the class define those words. |
D. Independent Practice-
Students will be responsible for filling out the list as others
tell them the words so that they are prepared for the vocabulary portion
of Friday's quiz. |
E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-
In order to help students who may not verbally process the definitions
the students are reading aloud, I will type along so that they can
be seen on the big-screen. |
F. Checking for understanding-
Students will have a vocabulary quiz on Friday. |
G. Closure-
I will close by reminding students about the quiz and talking about
the words we will be using tomorrow. |
